An Introduction to Titan

Ready to take a vacation planets from Earth? Visit Titan.

Titan is Saturn's largest moons with a diameter of 5,150 kilometers, almost half the size of Earth's diameter. It potentially has liquid water 100 kilometers beneath its surface and is a possible candidate for terraformation. It is the only celestial body in the Solar System other than Earth to have liquid on its surface. Titan has methane oceans and methanogenic life forms could exist because methane could be a substitution for water.

Titan has half the mass of Mercury but it is larger than it. In 6 billion years, if the temperature of the sun increases, it could be habitable because the increased temperature would create stable oceans on its surface. The name Titan originated from Greek Mythology where Titans dominated the land before Olympian gods took over.

Days/When is the best time to visit?
  • The day cycle on Titan lasts 15.9 Earth days, which is how long it takes Titan to orbit Saturn.
  • Orbital period: 15,945 days
  • 1 earth day= 16 days on titan
